The award is given to honour Latvian people, organisations and companies for their contribution to human development. The Award has four categories, highlighting contributions in the areas of social responsibility, education, health and well-being.

From 2014 to 2019, the Human Development Award was organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, the Civic Alliance – Latvia and the US Embassy in Latvia. Starting in 2020, the Award for Human Growth will be hosted by the Civic Alliance – Latvia and the US Embassy in Latvia.

The Active citizens fund is a grant programme of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway, with funding in 15 European countries. The Active Citizens Fund is funded in all countries by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, with each recipient country agreeing on the amount of funding in each country.

The Active citizens fund in all countries aims to strengthen civil society and citizens’ participation and to build the capacities of vulnerable groups.
