The aim of the game is to present the values of the European Union in a fun and engaging way, to stimulate debate on the future of Europe and to challenge Euroscepticism.
The Digital Breakout Room is a dystopian online game, playing out the scenario of what would happen if the European Union were destroyed by political populism and existing EU values were lost. Players are tasked with solving various challenges related to the European Union and restoring European values.
The Breakout Game is part of the international project ESCAPE ROOM - What would life be without the EU?!" with 10 partner organisations from Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, Estonia, Austria, Bulgaria and Spain.
The Ukraine lesson is suitable for students of all ages and consists of two parts - a 20-minute documentary and a 20-minute (or longer, at the discretion of each teacher) classroom discussion. The material for the initiative (for different age groups) is available at www.kopalidzuzvarai.lv
The documentary video is about Ukrainian children making friends with Latvian children - in and out of school, drawing, playing sports, singing, dancing and laughing together. But what do Ukrainian children think about in the evenings? Who do they confide their experiences and adventures to? Who do they write letters to? Emotional stories of children and young people will be interwoven with educational information and encouragement to support, understand and remember.
"Demokrātija 2084" is designed as a break-out game based on a dystopian (negative future) vision of the collapse of a democracy. The aim is to show players what life would be like without democratic values and what difficulties would be faced if the democratic system ceased to exist. The game is available in Latvian and is suitable for players aged 15 and over.
In “Demokrātija 2084” participants gain knowledge and understanding of democracy as a system of governance through theory, debate and practical activities. The activity will take place in two phases: - In the interactive part, using the game method, participants will learn about the elements of democracy and learn to build together a democratic system; - In the discussion part, participants will reflect on the game and have in-depth discussions about democratic values and processes, and will have the opportunity to ask the facilitators questions about socio-political life.
The game is suitable for young people aged 15 years and above, or from Grade 9 onwards, as well as adults. The activity corresponds to the social and civic learning domain and can be implemented in the specific learning domain. The game takes on average 50-60 minutes. The discussion and final part takes up to 30 minutes. Total: 90 minutes.
In this lesson, students explore and evaluate the development of democracy in Latvia by analysing its place in the Democracy Index. Students will be introduced to different aspects of democracy.
The lesson will use practical examples and interactive exercises to help students better understand the principles of democracy and their relevance today.
