The Ministry of the Interior has taken into account the objections mentioned in the opinion of the Civic Alliance - Latvia

On July 23, Artis Zaļūksnis, Policy Coordinator of the Civic Alliance - Latvia, participated in a co-ordination meeting organised by the Ministry of the Interior, where the draft order of the Ministry of the Interior “On the Action Plan for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism and Proliferation Financing for the Period from 2020 to 2022” was considered.

We have already informed of the opinion sent to the Ministry of the Interior (see here), in which we strongly stated that the current version of the document continues the generalisation practice by indicating that the civil society sector can be used for money laundering or terrorist financing . Neither the report nor the plan identified specific risks or circumstances that support such allegations, so the Civic Alliance - Latvia welcomes the fact that the objections raised have been taken into account by deleting the relevant text from the draft plan.

The Ministry of the Interior indicated that the draft plan would be further clarified and re-sent electronically for approval by the end of July.
