The Memorandum Council approves the new work plan for the next period
06.02.2024

The meeting of the Council for the Implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Non-Governmental Organisations and the Cabinet of Ministers, held on 31 January, approved the Council's work plan for 2024-2026, whose main priority objectives are to promote an enabling legal, financial and operational environment for the activities, growth and sustainability of civil society, associations and foundations, as well as to promote effective, inclusive, meaningful public participation and decision-making processes and ensure civic dialogue. In addition, during the session, researchers from the consultancy Civitta shared the impact assessment of the Cohesive and Civically Active Society Development Plan (CCASDP) 2022-2023, informing that satisfaction with democracy has declined in Latvia and that Latvian youth are among the most politically inactive in the European Union. The Ministry of Culture also shared the CCASDP plan for 2024-2027. More information on the CCASDP impact assessment 2022-2023 can be found here.

Under the new Memorandum Council work plan, working groups will be set up – a Finance (Budget) and Tax Working Group for NGOs and Civic Engagement and Activities, a Working Group for Public Engagement and Open Government Partnership and a Content Planning Working Group. The Work Plan is to be reviewed annually during its lifetime (semi-annually during the transition period 2024). The full work plan can be found here

In addition, the Memorandum Council approved the Director of the Civic Alliance – Latvia, Kristine Zonberga, as the nominated representative of the Society Integration Foundation in the selection committee for the candidates for the Council members.

All organisations and members of the Memorandum of Cooperation between NGOs and the Cabinet of Ministers are invited to send in items they wish to be included on the agenda of the Memorandum Council meeting.
