Meeting with MEPs in October to discuss anti-corruption and good governance

Transparency International LATVIA (TI LATVIA), the Civic Alliance - Latvia, Public policy think tank PROVIDUS and the The Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia (FICIL) invite you to a meeting with newly elected Members of the European Parliament on 11 October 2024, 15.00 - 17.00, at the European Union House (Aspazijas boulevard 28, Riga). The event will discuss topical issues in the field of anti-corruption and good governance that require urgent decisions over the next five years. The full programme is available here. The 2024 European Parliament elections elected 720 MEPs, including nine from Latvia. The aim of the meeting is to raise awareness of the newly elected MEPs on issues related to anti-corruption and good governance and to promote constructive dialogue on these topics in the European Parliament.

In the programme:

  • TI LATVIA will present an overview of the challenges to the integrity of the European Union institutions and the gaps in the lobbying framework.
  • CAL and PROVIDUS will analyse the scope of two newly emerging directives of the European Parliament and the Council and their impact on the development of civil society in Latvia and other EU countries. A position paper will be presented on the “foreign agents” directive, which provides for  organized  requirements on transparency of interest representation, and the directive on European cross-border associations.
  • FICIL will outline principles of good governance that could encourage investment and improve the business environment in Latvia.
  • The presentations will be followed by a discussion on priorities for the European Parliament in the next five years, as well as strengthening Latvia’s interests in reducing corruption and promoting good governance.

The meeting is supported by the European Parliament Office in Latvia. The event is  organized by Transparency International LATVIA with the financial support of the Society Integration Foundation from the Latvian state budget allocated by the Ministry of Culture.
