Escape game

The Civic Alliance – Latvia started visiting schools in November to play the escape room concept game "Democracy 2084" with students, visiting Kurzeme and Latgale in recent weeks. What lessons have the students learnt? The young people from the Rezekne Technical School noted that they learned to "think outside the box to get inside the box" and understood the meaning of democracy, while the students from the Viesite Secondary School noted that the game was quite difficult, but that their enthusiasm and determination brought them to the end of the game. 

The lesson combines guessing riddles and the basic principles of democracy. It combines play, learning and a journey together, revealing not only the code of locks but also the essence of democracy. The energy and excitement in the class will be remembered for a long time to come.

“Democracy 2084” aims to educate young people about the benefits of democracy, including civic participation. The theme is a dystopian vision of the collapse of a democratic state to show players what life would be like without democratic values, and the difficulties that must be faced without democratic systems. The game develops players' logical, analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as fostering collaboration, communication, leadership and digital literacy. It also improves knowledge of democratic principles, develops understanding of democratic values and the ability to express opinions on democratic and participatory issues.
