Winners of the Human Development Award 2020 honored in online ceremony with Untamed Dinner At Home
03.11.2020

On 10 December - Human Rights Day, the Civil Alliance - Latvia and the US Embassy in Latvia will honor the people, companies and organizations who have made Latvia better with their selfless work. Unlike other years, when the Human Development Award ceremony has traditionally been held in person, this year the celebrations will take place in several stages: in November the winners will be visited in their locations to thank them and present the awards, while the official awards ceremony will take place online on 10 December, followed by Untamed Dinner at Home, which will give the winners, the supporters of the award and other interested parties to spend time together in a safe, socially distant environment.

In November, the organizers of the event and senior officials of the ministries will visit each laureate to thank them for their contribution to Latvia's prosperity, as well as present the award -  Olga Šilova's sculpture "Sprout", diploma and the invitation to the dinner adventure - one of the latest creative ideas of “Skudras Metropole”, the Untamed Dinner at Home, which will take place in the afternoon of 10 December - after the official online announcement of the winners of Human Development Award on Facebook. We invite the participants of the ceremony to prepare their festive table and share the photos and/or videos of this event on social networks by adding the hashtag #HumanDevelopment2020.

This marks the seventh time the Human Development Award is presented in Latvia. The award dates back to 2014, when it was founded to focus on human growth or the development of the people, as a response to negative demographic trends, such as declining populations, high income inequality, declining health and high number of children in institutional care.

Winners are awarded in four categories: “For Social Responsibility”, “For Outstanding Contribution to Education”, “For Outstanding Contribution to Health and Welfare” and “For Contributing to the Future of Latvia”. As the Covid-19 crisis has highlighted many social activities, this year a special award will be given for support initiatives in Covid-19 crisis.
